Two guys from Brühl. Around the world and back.
AUXWEG is the story of two kids who never stopped tinkering: first in their childhood bedrooms, then on the big stages of Southeast Asia, and today back in the heart of Brühl. This is the road in between, briefly told.
Raised between soldering irons and loading screens.
For his seventh birthday, Volkan gets a Commodore 64. From then on he lives through every generation of technology first-hand: he writes little games and applications, runs his own servers and tinkers with anything that has a plug. Gregor, meanwhile, builds his own speakers and lighting rigs, because professional sound and stage technology won't let go of him. Whatever gets bought ready-made is opened up first.
Two kids' bedrooms in Brühl, the same diagnosis: even back then, both are the troubleshooters for family, friends and neighbours. Nothing about that has changed since, only the scale.
Booked once. A team ever since.
The two met in 2006 on a client project both had been booked for: Gregor as a software developer with a second foothold in event technology, Volkan as a freelance project and event manager on large-scale productions. The chemistry was right, and so was the result. From then on they booked each other, project after project.
Colleagues became friends, and in 2011 friends became a company: AUXWEG. The standard from day one: always deliver, stay fair and keep the joy in the work. In those first years the two already landed projects that, by rights, were well beyond their age.
A job for three months. They stayed almost a decade.
In 2013 a call came in from Singapore: help out on a major project, three to four months. Four months became six, six became twelve, and in the end AUXWEG had its own office in Singapore and the two of them were living right in the middle of it. For almost a decade, AUXWEG delivered projects across Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand: software, systems and technology for clients for whom failure is not an option.
Volkan and Gregor were recognised for their work more than once, at the highest levels. The awards now sit in Brühl. More important than any trophy: that is where they learned to work at world-class level, under pressure, across cultures and time zones.
Back. Right where it all began.
By 2021 the two had seen the world and knew where they wanted to be: home. They rented a shop space in the middle of downtown Brühl, a few streets from the childhood bedrooms where it all began. Today it is AUXWEG's headquarters: the Techquarter, TQ for short.
Up front, clearly visible behind the shop window: a workshop, a work and test bench and a hardware collection spanning four decades. In the back: high-end workstations, in-house servers, and two developers who don't watch the clock while they work. Some take the brightly lit TQ for a gaming store. It isn't. It is a fully equipped development studio where code is written at the highest level.
And if you drop by during the day, you'll usually find Odie in the window: executive assistance to the management, adopted as a puppy from a Spanish shelter, and by now a local celebrity.
Technology no one needs to fear.
Back in Germany, the two noticed how much room the country still has to grow when it comes to digitalisation, and how many people fear technology rather than use it. Feeling out of your depth is uncomfortable, so people would rather not ask in the first place. That is exactly where AUXWEG steps in: explaining patiently, with pictures and analogies, for as long as it takes until it is genuinely understood. For the teenager at their first PC, the senior with a new tablet, the mid-sized company facing digitalisation. You don't exploit a head start in knowledge. You close the gap.
The same conviction drives their in-house products: tools that make life easier. Reserv-X gives restaurateurs their table reservations back: simple, independent and free of hidden costs. Making technology understandable, affordable and usable, for people and small businesses alike: that is the mission the two of them set for themselves.
From loading screen to career.
Volkan came into IT through gaming. That is why, on weekends, the two build gaming PCs together with children and teenagers: the workshop is free, the hardware at cost price, and every component gets explained. More than 300 machines have come together this way. And you get to watch Minecraft fans gradually turn into 3D designers, video editors and budding programmers. That is exactly the point.
Around it, a local community has grown organically, where everyone helps everyone, from school kids to the seniors who come to the TQ to learn their way around their own devices. It isn't a business model and isn't meant to become one. It is the two of them giving something back, right where they come from.
